A frequently talked about topic in the gaming community is the idea of subscription based gaming. The benefits of this are varied, but one of the major ones is access to content. Many people want to know what’s next for their favorite game, or what updates are being made to their game of choice. The arrangement of a software company is one of the major factors that should be considered before committing to a subscription, because it’s not always easy to see what a game is doing for the user.

Project Gorgon is the codename of a new free-to-play multiplayer FPS that’s being developed by Wicked Witch Software. The game is set in the near future and the story follows a group of 4 soldiers who are tasked with finding and neutralizing the Project Gorgon threat. The first beta is launching today and the free-to-play multiplayer FPS is expected to be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in the first half of 2018.

User-generated content is one of the core features of Project Gorgon, and today’s update introduces something that will help us all make the most of our contributions. We’ve added a new “Gorgon Points” system, which will provide a way to store extra content that will be unlocked by all users when they reach certain milestones.

word-image-15148 Project Gorgon is getting a lot of love here. It has won the title of best independent MMO several years in a row thanks to its determination to be the strangest, most creative MMO in the world, with vintage graphics and a tiny staff. But the game hasn’t officially launched yet, after sitting in early access for three years, and now it’s finally revamping the whole monetization system that Elder Game Studios has been hinting at for a while. On Saturday night, the company announced a new VIP membership program starting today. This program offers players additional benefits as long as they are VIP members, the studio explains. The goal is to offer players another way to support game development and receive useful benefits in return, similar to a Patreon benefactor. It seems that the basic subscription costs about $12, less if you sign up for a shorter period; for example, if you sign up for 12 months, it will only cost you $8.33 per month. Players can claim Steam subs, in-game VIP tokens, and even VIP time from the game’s crowdfunding campaigns. The developers warn: If you want to keep your VIP time until the game is out of beta, don’t use your VIP time until then. In return, players get more character slots, more inventory slots, more item slots, more saddlebag slots, and access to the character table. Perhaps most interestingly, it includes a new skill you can teach yourself (I told you it was a strange game). This skill allows players to gain experience in offline skills, similar to the systems in EVE Online and the now defunct Glitch. It’s meant to help players who can’t play as often as they’d like, or who want to slowly evolve their alternate characters. Of course we fear that this possibility will give VIP players too big a game advantage over non-VIP players. We do not expect this to be a problem given the many restrictions and prohibitions that apply to this jurisdiction (see below), but we will nevertheless monitor developments. We want self-directed learning to be a secondary means of increasing proficiency. So if it turns out that this is the easiest or most effective way to raise a skill level, we will change it. Self-taught skills are not combat skills. Elder Game is calling the VIP plan an important step that marks a new phase in the game’s development, but stresses that it will not be mandatory. We’ve been talking about the VIP plan for years, but we didn’t want to implement it until we were technically ready to go from prototype to production, the developers said. And we are finally ready to enter this phase! This is very exciting for us and hopefully for you too! We have been extremely careful with the funds we have received from backers and buyers, which has allowed us to develop the game slowly over the years – and in fact, at the current rate of development, we can continue the game indefinitely. But we are finally at a point where it makes sense to hire a few more people and increase our production capacity. This is incredibly interesting: We’re talking better graphics, more content and more polish. (We’ll be honest with ourselves and know that this game will never be as polished as a AAA…. but eventually we can come close). We will update this article once we have the release notes for the rest of today’s update. Further reading (abridged version!): Source: Steam. Cheers, Panagiotis! ViewProject Gorgon is adding an optional subscription and perks with today’s update. The new update includes a new subscription called “Project Gorgon Plus”, which will offer a subscription to the Gorgon’s online encyclopedia, and access to new levels, new characters, and other updates. The new subscription is available by purchasing the Gorgon Plus package via in-app purchases. The Gorgon Plus package will be available for $1.49 USD until September 30. The ability to access the new content will be free for all Gorgon players after that date.. Read more about project gorgon roadmap and let us know what you think.
