Today, I’d like to talk about a game that I recently discovered and am rather enjoying. It’s called Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore, a great convention game that allows players to explore a world of fantasy and magic.
For those who love the idea of arcane magic and epic warring, but don’t want to actually play the game, this article is for you! What is an MMORPG without spells and skills? Maybe one where the risk and reward would be to look at each other angrily or threaten emotes with hugs. Fortunately (or unfortunately), there won’t be any cuddle matches in the game, as there will be spells and skills. Game designer Amar Duranovich took a moment to talk about the work of the developers at Gellyberry Studios, including a glimpse of the ability icons and details on how abilities are earned. Skills will be grouped by archetype, but beyond that players will be able to refine each detail as they progress through the game, as access to spells and skills will depend on faction choice, quests, research, and other factors. Let’s say you meet the priests of the Great Flame, who want to wipe out the frost fighters in the Valian Mountains. By siding with the priests, you increase your standing with them while effectively destroying the Frost Carvers. The trust you gain from the priests can give you access to certain important people in the priestly ranks to teach you certain spells or abilities. So your decision in this world has a direct effect on your character. However, if you side with the Frostcatchers, you can unlock other trainers from their order to unlock other development paths. Player choices, spells unlocked from ruins or ancient spells, and an attribute system are designed to make each character’s development unique. A video preview of the game’s skills and spells is in development, and the launch date for the first phase of closed alpha tests of the game is simply listed as soon™. View
