Today’s announcement by Mark Jacobs at the Camelot Unchained Kickstarter campaign was a great reminder that there is still plenty of development work ahead before the game is finished. The details of the new caravan mechanics and biomes are particularly exciting, as they show the level of detail that is being worked on.

One of the big questions facing the launch of Camelot Unchained was how we were going to handle the distribution of the game, both in terms of the actual game and the in-game currency, called “soulstones.” Since the game is a sandbox and we have the ability to create a variety of types of game mechanics, we decided to create an “economy” that would allow players to start cooperating towards a larger goal.

It’s been nearly three years since the launch of Minecraft: Pocket Edition, and those who’ve followed the development might have noticed that there are still a few key features missing from the game. Things like horses, boats, and other vehicles that could help players move faster through the world. And it looks like Mojang’s going to finally be adding those features this summer.

word-image-14945 Camelot Unchained has again released its monthly newsletter with details of the caravan system, or Vox Rota as it is known in the game. Companies are floating disk platforms that can follow a player-determined route on the ground to transport crates of goods from point A to point B. Of course, these companies can be attacked by others, but there is an insurance system for caravans made by craftsmen, using the maker’s mark that the craftsmen put on the cargo of the caravan. This means that the marked cargo and the established company will keep moving, whether it breaks down, gets stolen or falls through. Players who choose not to work with artisans will receive some magical profit for lost or stolen items, but it will not be as lucrative as those of other players. The newsletter continues to discuss biomes: another look at the Golden Plains site, a look at the Coastal Lowlands biome, and the promise of two new biomes in development, the Black Fjords and the Tropical Desert Coast. Meanwhile, CU Weekly Update contains the usual list of progress reports, including new artwork, improvements to NPC and AI behavior, and some new class skills. The weekly column begins with some big plans for the coming months as City State Entertainment prepares to resume operations next month, as well as other major updates. By the end of the summer, Camelot Unchained will look more like the game you expected when you backed us. Whether it’s weather systems, voice chat, new biomes or caravans, all of these things are in development and we expect them all to appear in the game before the end of the summer. Add in new races, class upgrades, crafting, etc. and you have a pretty interesting game cycle. And I’m sure we’re in for some good surprises this summer too! In March, CSE of Camelot Unchained agreed to an interview regarding the status of the game and refunds, which has not been released to us to date. We understand that current events behind the scenes at the studio have prevented its shipment, but we still plan to publish it as soon as we have it. Meanwhile, CSE spokesman Mark Jacobs has repeatedly informed fans that the team should return to office by early summer and that that would speed up the return of funds. MMORPG veterans know that Camelot Unchained, which originally appeared on Kickstarter in 2013, has faced criticism over the years for delays, the formation of a second studio, the announcement of a second game using theCU engine, and delayed payouts. The game went into beta in 2018, where 3,000 people and bots could simultaneously enter the battlefield during testing; more recently, development is running on a 90-day schedule. ViewEver since the reveal of the long-awaited MMORPG Camelot Unchained in May, details about its development have been slowly released, each one adding a little more information about the game itself. The latest batch of updates include information on how players will be able to travel through the world, including the details of the various caravans players will be able to join and how the biomes will work..
